Old soldering & foiling

A while back I talked about having left an unfinished piece for about 2 months that had been completely wrapped with copper foil,tacked and also some beading. When returning to finish the work. I had trouble getting the solder to adhere to the seams even after rubbing lightly with steel wool and applying a flux/patina cleaner. I am trying not to over heat the glass, but after intense labor I'm getting lumps and not so pretty beading. Help!
