Adding Depth to Stained Glass Art

This two-day workshop is intended for intermediate and advanced students: people who have already mastered the basic techniques of working in stained glass, particularly the copper foil methods.

One of the qualities for which Robert Oddy's work is known is the illusion of depth in his stained glass windows and panels. This is achieved by a combination of techniques, including the use of multiple layers of glass (Plating), copper foil overlays, careful choice of glass and appropriate design principles. These techniques will be the topic of this workshop. Bob will explain these principles and his techniques in a number of short presentations and you will be able to work on the included project to give you hands-on experience in these techniques.

The pattern for the project will be sent to you prior to the workshop and you are asked to do some preliminary work so that you can focus on the more advanced work during the workshop. Please note that this project will take longer than one weekend to make so it would be a good idea to start on the project before the workshop. It is strongly suggested to work on the front layer, and leave anything that you find problematic until the class.

Students are to bring their own small hand tools - grinders and saws will be provided in the classroom. Click here to view glass suggestions and instructions for the project. Students will be given a break on both days to go to lunch. Warner Stained Glass has a break room with a refrigerator and microwave the students can use during the weekend.

Mosaic Stepping Stones

Add a little color to your garden or walkway with a glass mosaic stepping stone!

In this step-by-step class, you will be learning everything from cutting to layout to mixing and pouring concrete to sealing your finished project. You will be given an 8” x 8” reusable mold and one of our best selling stepping stone books, Garden Variety, to create your own stepping stone. You can choose one of the seven 8” x 8” patterns in the book, from a selection of other patterns or bring your own! Tools and glass need to be purchased before the class. Basic glass cutting experience is recommended.

Beginner Stained Glass
Mondays from Oct. 4th - Oct. 18th

The ultimate beginning stained glass class! This class is perfect for someone just getting into stained glass or someone looking to perfect the basics. Our instructor, Jamie Covino, will work with you showing you the proper way to cut, foil and solder. You will get to choose from a wide selection of patterns and glass to complete your projects within this 3 day class.

Our classes are small so you can get the one-on-one instruction you may need to see that creating beautiful stained glass pieces is not only easy but fun!

Decorative Soldering

Learn the decorator's secrets for enhancing almost any stained glass project. In this class you will learn different techniques on how to add bumps, stripes and swirls to your solder to make your projects even more beautiful. Find out how metal accents can be a focal point in your panels, a clasp on your box, or just jazz up an ornament. Students will leave with the working knowledge of decorative soldering applications. 26 point Moravian Star Light Class

So stained glass has become a hobby of yours and every holiday you always get the same questions from your friends and family, “Do you make those Lighted Moravian Stars?” You’ve always answered “I don’t know how.” Well this holiday season, you can answer them, “YES! Check out this 26 Pointed Moravian Lighted Star I made!” All your friends and family will be asking for one next holiday.

In this intermediate four-day class, you will learn all the steps to create a beautiful 26 Point Moravian Lighted Star which can retail for $500 or more! Students are to bring their own glass, supplies and tools. Lighting supplies are included.

12 Point Moravian Star Class

Spend the day making a 12 pointed, three-dimensional Moravian star. It is said that these originated as a geometry lesson for young boys in Germany. Who says you can’t learn geometry while having fun!

Students will be given the opportunity to work with the Morton Cutting System and Beetle Bits Cutting System. Other hand-cutting tools will be available to use in the classroom. Glass (Spectrum, Clear Waterglass) will be included in the class.

Intermediate Stained Glass

What better way to show your appreciation for fall then displaying some fall leaves and acorns in your window. In this intermediate stained glass class, you will learn how to use the grain of the glass to create natural looking pieces, polish up your soldering skills and touch base on patinas and finishing compounds. Basic cutting and soldering skills are required. Students are to bring their own tools and supplies. Glass and pattern are included.
